Welcome to  The Medicare RPh

A Pharmacist’s Prescription for Stress-Free Medicare.

If you have ever stared at a stack of Medicare booklets on your kitchen table and felt completely overwhelmed by the alphabet soup of Parts A, B, C, and D—you are not alone. Every year, millions of patients are asked to make complex healthcare and financial decisions using thick packets of insurance jargon that seem designed to confuse rather than clarify.

I started The Medicare RPh to change that.

For the past 25 years, I have worked as a practicing Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) and Registered Pharmacist (RPh) across independent neighborhood pharmacies, retail chains, and hospital settings. I also serve as a pharmacy professor, where I teach future pharmacists how our healthcare and insurance systems actually work behind the scenes.

Over two and a half decades at the pharmacy counter, I have seen firsthand what happens when a Medicare plan doesn’t match a patient’s real-world needs. I’ve stood with patients who were blindsided by surprise deductibles in January, discovered their trusted doctor or neighborhood pharmacy was suddenly "out of network," or learned that a medication they have taken for years was moved to an expensive copay tier.

Why Learn About Medicare from a Pharmacist?

Most Medicare websites you find online are run by insurance brokers or lead-generation companies looking to sell you a specific policy. I am not an insurance agent, and I don’t sell plans or earn commissions. My only goal is to sit on your side of the counter as an educator and advocate.

Because pharmacists work at the crossroads of clinical medicine and insurance billing every single day, we see how plans perform in real life—not just how they look on a glossy brochure. Here on The Medicare RPh, I translate complex Medicare rules into plain, everyday English so you can:

  • Understand your options across Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Part D prescription drug plans.
  • Avoid costly mistakes and late-enrollment penalties before they happen.
  • Look beyond the monthly premium to spot hidden drug tiers, prior authorizations, and pharmacy network restrictions.
  • Walk into Open Enrollment with confidence, knowing exactly what questions to ask to protect both your health and your wallet.

Every patient deserves fair, clear, and affordable access to the care and medications they need. Think of this blog as a conversation at your local pharmacy counter—where no question is too small, the advice is always straightforward, and your well-being comes first.
